The University of York and Adfam are undertaking research to better understand how the families of veterans with historic or current alcohol or drug problems are affected, and what can be done to help them.  This is an important but neglected issue.

The project is funded by the Forces in Mind Trust and has four project partners – SSAFA, HMP Parc in Wales, Tom Harrison House in Liverpool and the Bristol Drugs Project.  The project has four key components (online survey, interviews, local events and a literature review), and data will be used to develop a new peer support intervention for this cohort of families.

Families of veterans with substance use problems are needed to complete the online survey which can be found at bit.ly/family-veterans-survey.  As this is a sensitive issue for families, help in circulating the survey link through personal links, e-mails, websites, social media, etc. would be much appreciated by the research team.  A pdf survey flyer can be provided.
